RIGID POLYURETHANE

Structural Rigid Polyurethane is a thermosetting polymer known for its versatility and ease of industrial processing. It features a sandwich structure with a compact outer skin and a porous cellular core. This composition allows it to support significant loads and create objects with variable wall thicknesses (from 3 to 30 mm), while ensuring high mechanical strength and low specific weight.

Its main qualities include surface hardness, deformation-resistant surfaces and excellent resistance to chemical, biological and thermal agents. This high-performance structural material gives designers complete freedom, allowing them to create complex shapes and large components without the need for external reinforcement inserts. Its versatility also extends to the possibility of creating complex profiles with variable thicknesses, co-moulding fixing solutions (metal or plastic), and applying an extensive range of surface finishes (glossy, matte or embossed paints), thus overcoming the limits of traditional design.

This system offers significant economic advantages compared to traditional injection moulding, particularly for medium-small production runs and bulky products. From a sustainability perspective, the use of rigid polyurethane as a replacement for metal inserts maximises the recyclability of the component at the end of its life cycle. The material is also available with fire reaction classification V-0 (according to UL-94).

Essepieffe Italia supports production with 6 lines dedicated to rigid structural polyurethane. The company also offers the possibility of delivery with unfinished or pre-painted components in a wide range of finishes and colours, depending on the design requirements.

FLEXIBLE CO-MOULDED RIGID POLYURETHANE

Rigid Polyurethane co-moulded with Flexible Polyurethane is a hybrid solution that combines two polyurethane formulations within a single monolithic component. Through the co-moulding process, the Rigid Polyurethane acts as the structural core, while the Flexible foam forms the outer layer. The result effectively combines the support and mechanical stability of the rigid core with the superior comfort, softness and ergonomics of the flexible layer.

RIGID POLYURETHANE

Rigid Polyurethane is produced through a high-pressure moulding process, resulting in a material characterised by high density and strong mechanical support.

This technology is used for the production of components that require rigidity, dimensional stability and structural strength, such as chair shells, furniture shells or technical inserts. The result is a self-supporting and durable product, often capable of replacing metal or wood, while offering design versatility and cost optimisation.
